Beer and Brewing
|Stop at Café Bavaria for a wide selection of German beers.|
Just minutes from brew city, it’s no surprise that Wauwatosa is home to several great spots for beer aficionados. Beers from all over the world, plus some brewed right here in town, are waiting for you at these local watering holes.
At Café Bavaria, pair German favorites like schnitzel and delicious wursts with an extensive selection of German biers. If your group is feeling competitive, pick your favorite draught to fill “Das Boot” and play the boot drinking game. Right next door, visit their sister restaurant Café Hollander for a taste of the Benelux region (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg). Hollander’s “bier book” is locally renowned, and you’ll never have your bier served in the wrong glass – they keep over 40 different glasses behind the bar for the best Belgian bier experience possible.
At Ray’s Wine & Spirits, you can participate in a beer tradition making a big comeback: growlers! These glass bottles filled with freshly tapped beer were once the way every family brought fresh beer home from pubs and breweries. Ray’s Growler Gallery features the best, freshest and most creative local brews – these rare exclusive beers will not be available anywhere in a bottle! Ray’s is happy to fill your pre-owned growler, or come on Thursday or Sunday to try pints and beer flights.
Looking for variety? How does over 500 craft beers sound? You’ll find them all at World of Beer, newly opened in Wauwatosa. The taps rotate daily here, so you’ll always be able to find new and rare beer brewed in everything from local to global breweries. Also now open, stop in the Malt Shoppe, a store strictly dedicated to beer.
Open from May through October, The Landing at Hoyt Park is Wauwatosa’s beer garden. Enjoy an ever-changing menu of local craft and imported beer, open Wednesday through Sunday. Bring your own picnic or purchase classic beer garden snacks like giant pretzels and beer brats.
Wauwatosa is now also home to its very own microbrewery brewery: Big Head Brewing Company. Stop by the tasting room to try their craft beers as a pint, flight, pitcher or get a growler to go!
