Performing Arts and Film

The Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse only has one screen, but the movie experience can’t be beat.

The Village Playhouse has been providing the greater Milwaukee area with quality theater for over 30 years. They have touring performances and a new permanent theater in West Allis. In addition to presenting a season of full-length plays each year, the Village Playhouse has also hosted an original one act festival for nearly thirty years, bringing to life on stage the works of Wisconsin playwrights.

Wisconsin Lutheran College is home to the Center for Arts and Performance offering a wide variety of theater, art and music events, presented by both students and professional entertainers. Their Guest Artist Series draws the public with performances by artists, such as Maureen McGovern and special evenings. Student plays can run from Classical Greek/Roman to Shakespeare to Modern Realism to original plays. There is something for everyone.

Wauwatosa is also home to two vibrant high school theater programs. The Wauwatosa East High School Players and Wauwatosa West High School Trojan Players each present two major productions each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Children's Theatre of Wauwatosa organized through the school district and dedicated to guiding children into the appreciation of live theater, presents Saturday performances of shows like, "Alice in Wonderland," "Pirate Jack's Hidden Treasure," and more. Support young local performers and arts programs by attending one of their shows while you're in town.

Catch a movie at the Rosebud Cinema Drafthouse, an independent theater that’s been serving the community since 1931. Settle in on a comfy couch and order from the theater’s extensive and impressive menu (including beer, wine and cocktails) – your meal will be delivered right to your seat. You can even catch a movie at the 18-screen AMC theatre at Mayfair!
